About Corinna Maharani

Corinna Maharani is an Ayurvedic practitioner and educator with 25 years of experience in practicing and teaching Ayurvedic Sacred Bodywork, Marma Therapy and Pancha Karma Therapy.   Her legal name, “Maharani,” means Great Queen, chosen because she wanted to reflect her devotion to the power and blessings of the Divine Feminine as well as honoring the principles of treating others with noble respect.

Corinna graduated from one of the first Ayurveda programs held at the Maharishi International University, in Iowa, in 1989.  There she also met her lifelong teacher Vaidya R.K. Mishra, who is considered to be one of the most brilliant minds in Ayurveda history.

Corinna founded Maharani Ayurveda in 1994 and has operated her own Pancha Karma clinic in Santa Barbara since 2000.  She was the director of the Pancha Karma educational program at the Kanyakumari Ayurveda & Yoga School in Wisconsin for fifteen years and has taught hundreds of students the art of Pancha Karma healing--many of whom have successful practices around the globe. She is also a frequent public speaker and published writer on the topic of Ayurveda.

Corinna’s primary goal is to deepen the understanding of this holistic science and to help lay people and professionals alike apply these ancient principles toward health and healing.  She created the Maharani Academy to offer in-depth certified vocational training to those who feel called to spread the light of Ayurveda into the world.

About Ayurveda and the SVA lineage

Ayurveda literally means the knowledge of life.  It originated more than five thousand years ago in the Vedic civilization of India.   This ancient healing science is considered the mother of all healing modalities.  It balances and heals the body, mind, and spirit through the use of proper diet, lifestyle changes, herbs, and a variety of healing spa and detox therapies.  Corinna's depth of knowledge stems from the guidance of her teacher, Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra, a brilliant primary Ayurvedic physician, researcher, educator, and formulator.

The SVA Lineage

Vaidya R.K. Mishra came from a long lineage of Ayurvedic experts that can be traced back 126 generations. They served as Raj Vaidyas, personal doctors to the royalty of India.  SVA stands for Shaka Vansiya Ayurveda and originated on of the islands of Sri Lanka, called  Shaka.

Vaidya R.K. Mishra

Vaidya Mishra studied at an Ayurvedic college followed by years of rigorous private training with his father, Vaidya Kameswar Mishra.  During his internship, he was handed down specialized knowledge from his SVA lineage and MIshra became one of the foremost experts and formulators in Ayurvedic medicine.   It is from that living tradition that Corinna shares her love of Ayurveda.  For his complete biography visit here.
